Assistive Technology

Reflection on Assistive Technologies in Inclusive Classrooms   Regardless of an individual’s capacity or disabilities, inclusive education seeks to give them equal access to learning opportunities. By reducing constraints and allowing students with a range of needs to fully participate in class activities, Assistive Technologies (AT) play a significant role toward achieving this goal. Screen readers and speech recognition software are two popular assistive technologies which I will discuss in the following paragraphs.    1.       Screen Readers Screen readers are the software which converts digital text into speech. Students with visual impairments are able to access information with the use of it. These are essential tools while making digital contents like textbooks, online resources, assignments and to make it accessible to students who have relatively low vision or for those who find difficulty in seeing. The main use of it is to interp...

Siri as assistive tools

Image
Siri can be a helpful tool for learners who have trouble using their hands or fingers, such as those with weak fine motor skills. Instead of typing or clicking, they can just talk to Siri to open apps, search the internet, or write using voice. This makes learning easier and faster because they don’t have to struggle with using a keyboard or mouse. Siri also helps students get answers quickly, like doing math or spelling words. They can say, “Hey Siri, how do you spell elephant?” and get help right away. This makes them more independent and confident in their learning.

Camtasia as constructive tool

Image
Camtasia helps in the construction of knowledge by allowing teachers to create interactive and visual learning materials that support student understanding. Through video lessons, demonstrations, and screen recordings, students can see and hear the steps involved in solving problems or completing tasks. This multi-sensory approach helps students to better grasp concepts and retain information. Students can also watch the videos at their own pace, pause, and replay parts they do not understand, which encourages independent learning. By using Camtasia-created content, students actively engage with the material, make connections with prior knowledge, and build new understanding through guided exploration and visual explanations. This supports the constructivist approach where learning is meaningful, personalized, and student-centered.

Telegram as communicative tool

Image
Telegram is a useful communication tool that can enhance teaching primary students. It allows teachers to send messages, documents, images, videos, and voice notes, making it easy to share learning materials quickly. Teachers can create class groups where they can post announcements, give instructions, and answer questions, helping both students and parents stay updated. This supports a smooth flow of communication, especially when face-to-face meetings are not possible. Telegram’s simple and user-friendly design also makes it suitable for parents and young learners to use with ease. In addition to sharing information, Telegram encourages interactive learning. Teachers can use features like polls, quizzes, and stickers to make learning fun and engaging for primary students. Voice notes and short videos can also help explain difficult concepts in a child-friendly way. By using Telegram, teachers can build a more connected and interactive learning environment, supporting education ...

ICT as Constructive Tools (Reflection)

Finishing this lesson on the constructivist model of teaching and learning, and the use of ICT-based constructive tools, I got an extremely exciting experience for me. It not only improved my understanding of the way in which students learn knowledge but also gave me practical skills and methods that I can use in my future career as a teacher. The constructivist approach place importance on active learning, where students are not just a mare receivers of information but active participants in constructing their own knowledge and ides. I have learned that this approach encourages exploration, collaboration, and creativity, all of which are very crucial in fostering meaningful learning.  One of the best aspects of the lesson was discovering how ICT can support various teaching methods. Packages such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, Publisher, concept map packages such as C-map, and even social networking websites offer endless means of structuring interesting and interact...

ICT as a Communicative Tool (reflective journal)

Reflective Journal – ICT as a Communicative Tool How ICT can be used as a communicative tool in teaching and learning setting? Here we have to reflect on the way how we interact with learners and integrate technology in creating more effective and inclusive learning. from the session on ICT as communicative tools I realized that communication through ICT is not limited to just talking or sending messages. It is also about integrating engaging platforms, tools, and feedback systems. During the session we explored different ICT tools like emails, messaging apps, discussions boards, Google Docs, and some other classroom platforms like Google Classroom. I was especially interested to know how tools like Padlet and zoom creates opportunities for real time learning and collaboration. These tools are incredibly useful in classroom where students may be shy to speak up. So, ICT provides alternative ways to express ideas through typing, posting images, or using emojis and polls.  One...
