ICT as a Communicative Tool (reflective journal)

Reflective Journal – ICT as a Communicative Tool

How ICT can be used as a communicative tool in teaching and learning setting? Here we have to reflect on the way how we interact with learners and integrate technology in creating more effective and inclusive learning. from the session on ICT as communicative tools I realized that communication through ICT is not limited to just talking or sending messages. It is also about integrating engaging platforms, tools, and feedback systems.

During the session we explored different ICT tools like emails, messaging apps, discussions boards, Google Docs, and some other classroom platforms like Google Classroom. I was especially interested to know how tools like Padlet and zoom creates opportunities for real time learning and collaboration. These tools are incredibly useful in classroom where students may be shy to speak up. So, ICT provides alternative ways to express ideas through typing, posting images, or using emojis and polls.

One activity that stood out for me was a role-play where we used Google Docs to collaborate on a group lesson plan. I noticed how quickly we could share ideas, suggest edits, and agree on tasks. This made me reflect on how students can benefit from this kind of real-time feedback and how it nurtures teamwork and communication skills. I uploaded a screenshot of this document to my digital portfolio, along with a short caption explaining its purpose.

I learned that as much as ICT can help us communicate better, it’s also important to set boundaries and use these tools responsibly. We discussed digital citizenship, online etiquette, and how to model respectful communication in digital spaces. This is something I want to keep emphasizing when I start teaching lower primary students.

This session reminded me that communication is at the heart of education, and ICT gives us powerful tools to support that. I now feel more prepared to foster a classroom environment where every student feels heard whether they speak up verbally or type in an ICT platform.
